Marie Yolande's Profile

Marie Yolande is an internationally known needlework instructor, designer and published author. Her work has appeared in Threads, Sew Beautiful and Inspiration.

 She first learned sewing, hand embroidery and machine sewing from her mother, Madame Eva, an accomplished French seamstress and embroiderer. The French nuns further expanded her stitching knowledge. Her extensive international travel experience combined with her studies in French Couture Design and Needlework studies in the U.S. , Canada and Europe enable her to organize textile oriented tours to European countries with hands-on embroidery workshops. Among them, The Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court, England, Maison Malbranche, Paris, France, Maree Maher Mountmellick Embroidery Seminar, Dublin, Ireland, Les Brodeuses, Montréal, Canada, Creative Sewing & Needlework Seminar, Toronto, Canada, Francine Nicolle Boutis Seminar, Avignon, France, International Forum of Lace and Embroidery, Rimini, Italy and others.

 Marie Yolande has appeared on television shows in Canada and The U.S. demonstrating various types of European Needlework. She enjoys sharing her passion for needlework and the knowledge she has learned abroad by conducting lectures and teaching seminars.

Workshops based on the “Boutis Provençal Technique”

Learn and discover the history of “ Broderie de Marseille ”/French whitework as it has been practiced in the south of France for centuries. This totally reversible corded embroidery technique is hand stitched and can be adapted in a variety of ways. All the boutis classes listed below cover the basic fabric manipulation steps in the execution of the boutis technique with the marking, stitching, cording,….

This lecture and slide presentation is supported by a collection of textiles and embroidered items from the various regions France . Learn about the cultural and regional differences among the French needleworkers.
